The Battle of the Books is a program designed to encourage reading and to give recognition to those who enjoy reading. Team members (consisting of 4 students) read from a list of books selected by the "America's Battle of the Books" program. Each team can choose how to divide the 20 titles so that there is a member who reads each one of the books.
In March, teams will come together for a game-show-style competition tournament where they will work as a team to answer questions about the books from the list. The answers will always be the Title and Author of the book. For example, if a team is asked the question, "In what book does a young boy visit Dictionopolis?" The answer would be "The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster." The winning 5th-6th grade team will go on to complete against other schools in Utah County (there is no District competition for 3rd-4th grade).
There are separate book lists and teams for 3rd-4th grade and 5th-6th grade.
